The work of art we are going to study today was made by Paul Bailey.

Some information about Mr Bailey

Paul Bailey is a british artist who managed to create his own style. He only resorts to watercolors and landscapes to let fly his imagination.

His style is so “radical” that it would be hard to mistake his watercolors for other artists’ works.

Red Mount

This 7*9 inch watercolor is called Red Mount. It is about a orange-roofed house located on top of a red mountain. The spooky atmosphere really gives us the creeps.

An Unfriendly but familiar place

This mount is typical of the UK which is not surprising as P. Baily hails from there.
What is original is the way colors are used. They are dark and hideous. The closer they get from the house, the darker they become (the sky shifts from ocher to black, for instance).

The shape of the colors are very regular and sharp which is similar to some cubists paintings. This reinforces the artificial and dark aspect of the artwork.

Loneliness

At first glance, it is crystal-clear that the tiny house is crushed by the tremendous landscape. Paul Bailey desired to reveal to the world how lonely the residents of the house are.
