The Temple of Thousand Pleasures in China

by Inspirits

From a western standpoint, China is all about Shanghai. However, you will find out that we got it all wrong.

The rise of a Chinese Colossus

Inspirits is a Chinese photographer who has been active since 2002. He yearns for

showing how beautiful life is through his colourful photographs. Thus, he picks common places and turns them into something wonderful.

The Temple of Thousand Pleasures

The photograph we chose was taken in the downtown of Nanjing, a major city in China and is called “the temple of thousand pleasures”. It points out how wealthy and powerful China has become since its economic rise a few years ago.

A Witness of Change

According to our calculation, China will be more powerful than the United States in 15 years and we can see the change now.
The standard of living of the Chinese is rapidly growing which allows them to wear modern clothes, to live better and to make the most of their life.

Cities are being revamped as new skyscrapers emerge and bold architectural constructions are built every year (such as the colourful pyramid). Shanghai is not the only city that benefits from the economic growth as Nanjing is more advanced than the capital of China in some respects.

A Meaning behind the beauty

There is no denying that Inspirits’ photograph is beautiful but beyond its beauty, there is a message.
People represent 22% of the picture which reveals that the focus was put on the buildings. What is more, most of them are on the move and blurry which contrasts with the static towers.
Consequently, it is safe to say that, however small, the Chinese citizens are the architects of a Big and Successful China.
